The Specialist College

The impact of achieving specialist school status has been to improve the facilities for teaching across the school, especially in English, Religious Education and Citizenship.

In September 2004, the school achieved specialist status as a humanities college under the government's specialist school programme.

The specialist programme has allowed the school to develop a framework for lesson delivery that has, at its foundation, an acceptance that children learn in different ways and therefore demand variety in lesson planning and delivery.  Under the programme the school is also supporting and enhancing the humanities in our partner primary and secondary schools; and the Heatons School, Stockport Humanities college status does not in any way reduce the provision or quality of other subjects in the school. On the contrary, our membership of the specialist schools network enhances the teaching of all subjects across the curriculum.
