Year 6 Transition

Transition Programme

“In order to ease the transition of pupils from their primary schools into St James' Catholic High School, a number of activities and events are scheduled.”

In June Year 4 and 5 parents of our partner primary schools are invited to St James' to meet with the Headteacher. This gives an insight into the life and work of the school.

Open Evening takes place early in the autumn term giving parents and students the opportunity to visit the school and see the school “in action”.

Throughout Year 6, pupils from our feeder primary schools are visited by the Assistant Headteacher responsible for transition.

In the last few weeks of Year 6, pupils will also visit St James’ for Intake Day . This is a full day to experience the new school, learn a little about the staff and the routines in secondary school and to generally acclimatise themselves.

Parents and carers of pupils who have been accepted for a place will be contacted and invited to Intake Evening. This is an opportunity to meet the Headteacher and staff and talk over any issues that might be of concern. At this event parents can also see a display of our uniform and order items if they so wish.

It is important that pupils feel at ease when making the transition from primary to secondary and every attempt is made to facilitate this transition as smoothly as possible for all concerned.
