Battlefields Trip - Day One

Monday 2nd November 2015

Early start to the First World War Battlefields. The weather has been outstanding. Our first visit was to Longuenesse Souvenir Cemetery where pupils could see a wide range of graves from soldiers who fought in the First World War from different nations.

We arrived at Le Chateaux at teatime where some of the pupils ran some energy off playing football. We had a superb evening meal followed by a demonstration of what a Tommy soldier had to wear and carry. Thomas Grannigan dressed as the Tommy and Melissa Cauldron as the nurse. We also looked at the uniform of a nurse (Volunteer Aid Detachment). Pupils operated a Lee Enfield Rifle and learnt how many shots the professional British Soldier could fire in one minute. It is safe to say the pupils this evening are very tired but looking forward to their visit to Belgium tomorrow.
